An ivestigation of the skeleton with water soluble colored pencils and pastel. University of Dayton drawing studio 2014. Click on the first image to enlarge and read the description of steps. Clicking on each step will forward you to the next step.
Using loose gestural light lines I try to accurately place the large shapes of the skeleton.
Using a darker water soluble pencil I continue.
Before I start to loosen the drawing with water, I use vertical and horizontal lines to check and correct placement.
I load a 1" flat watercolor brush with water and begin to wash and lift the pigment. This would have been an interesting place to quit but my intent was to get some serious practice in and add pastel later so I continue. I'll create some work in the near future with this end in mind.
Drawing back into the wet color and re-establishing some lost shapes and finding new ones.
Step 6 2nd session
Back and forth between brush and pencil. Lifting out lights with water and refining the drawing with the watercolor pencils.
Using pastel pencils and nu-pastel sticks to finish.
